French Book of Hours leaf, 14th century (c.1360). On vellum.
A rather uncommon example, due to the text being in French, when at the time most liturgical works were rendered in Latin. Adding to that, there are 3 very nice initials, 2 on the recto and 1 on the verso. 2 of these initials are done in a pleasing red and blue penwork, surrounding a burnished gold letter.
A translation of the red text on verso reads:
“La belle oroison de nre dme” = “The beautiful prayer of our lady”
SIZE:
126mm X 90mm
NOTABLE ATTRIBUTES:
3 nice initials, 2 being burnished gold letter with red and blue penwork border
CONDITION:
Staining along outer fore-edge of leaf. Previous pencil notations ( apparently previous dealer number).
